An automatic trap nest for poultry confinement including a body frame, an opposing side walls, a bottom wall, a rear wall, a top wall and a partially open front portion forming thereon inner compartment, a movable door leaf adapted as access covering to said partially open front portion, a latch mechanism with a lever adapted to actuate the movable door leaf when a hen detaches the lever, a locking member serving as barrier stopping the movable door leaf from reopening once the poultry is inside the inner compartment and a sloping canopy preventing premature actuation of the latch mechanism. The invention prevents the hen from leaving the nest after laying an egg thereby allowing proper identification of the egg based on the identity of the hen that laid it.
